Piedmont wine region

Wine Tastings

Planning your Piedmont wine tasting adventure is a journey itself as there is much to consider. Do you want self-guided and / or guided wine tour days? Are you looking for walk-in tasting rooms (there aren’t many!), specialty tastings (older vintages, verticals, lesser-known indigenous varieties, etc)? The options are endless and we can help you plan.

Insider tip: don’t limit yourself to the region’s best known Barolo and Barbaresco labels. Fun fact: those two wines make up only about 3 percent of Piedmont’s total wine production. Take your wine immersion outside the Langhe. Visit the Monferrato to explore barbera and intriguing, lesser-known indigenous varieties. And, don’t miss the Roero, the place of origin of the area’s top white, arneis as well as younger drinking aged nebbiolo wines. To start your planning your Piedmont wine tasting adventures, read our tips here.

Cooking Class

Cooking classes teach you about a region’s cultures and traditions. We can organize a program right at your villa, in an Italian nonna’s kitchen, or at one of our favorite restaurants.

For a full day experience, start with a visit to a farmer’s market to select fresh, seasonal ingredients followed by a hands-on lesson making antipastiprimo, secondo, and dolce. Or, for a more relaxed experience, do a course on pasta or pizza-making – great for kids! Wine pairing and education can be added to any lesson. Read more to get to know Piedmont cuisine here.

Truffle Hunts

If you know a little about the Piedmont region, you are familiar with the fabled Tartufo bianco di Alba (the Alba white truffle). For fall or winter Barolo travel, a truffle hunt is a must. If your travels call for spring or summer, don’t despair, we have black spring and summer truffles to ensure you don’t miss this very Piemontese experience.

At The Villas, we work with the area’s Truffle Dog University; the hunters and their dogs use our grounds to forage these delicacies. So, you only walk out your door for your Barolo truffle hunt experience. Read more about the Alba White truffle here.

In-Home Personal Chef Service

While the Monvigliero Vineyard Villas are designed to be self-catering, chef and staff services are available at your request.

A favorite with guests is our personal chef service. Use it for some or all of your meals. Pair your cooking classes with wine education, specialty tasting programs, and maid services so the cleaning is taken care of for you. We will happily organize maid or butler services, personal driver services, dry cleaning service, and much more. Inquire for more information.

Event Planning Services

With the property’s unique “U” shape, The Villas make a perfect location for a destination event or program – weddings, milestone birthday and anniversary trips, business and wellness retreats, large family reunions or holiday escapes. Let us do all the planning and arrangements: catering, audio / visual needs, logistical planning, and more. Utilize our expansive outdoor space, indoor and outdoor dining, the panoramic shared pool, and more for your program. We also provide support for organizing off-site activities. Inquire for more details.

Bike & Vespa Rental

Have you ever dreamed of zipping through Italy on a Vespa or cycling the endless vineyard landscape? Well, you have come to the right place. We can arrange a guided or self-guided ride that takes you all around the Langhe, Roero, and the Monferrato. And, don’t fear those steep hills — one of our electric bikes (e-bikes) will have you flying through the hills. On request, let us put together a ride that includes stops at charging locations, wine tasting, and food.

Dining Guidance / Bookings

The joke with the locals in Piedmont is that you won’t eat anywhere better in the world, but “you always eat the same thing.” Well, let us help plan your dining to keep the experience diverse. From simple trattorias to little known gems that have been around for generations to Michelin-starred dining, we can suggest the right meal for the right time. We also help with meal planning for larger groups. And, take advantage of our personal chef service to enjoy an elegant dining experience right at home. Read about our personal chef services and check out our dining recommendations here.

Wine Tastings

There is nothing quite like a traditional festa in this gastronomic heaven. For the ultimate in Piedmont culture and tradition, try things like village hikes that are guided by wine and food parings to a boiled meat festival (seriously, Google “Fiera del Bue Grasso”). Check back regularly for the area’s most exciting and interesting events.

Day Trips (Turin, The Lakes, Milan, Alta Langa, Alto Piemonte, etc.)

While we do not think you’ll get bored when you visit Barolo, there are a lot of incredible places that are just a car or train ride away. We can help arrange transportation and / or routes as well as activities for visits to some of the best places in Northern Italy. Do a walking tour of Turin, spend a day at the Lakes, go shopping in Milan, try tastings of cheese in the Alta Langa, and wines of the Alto Piemonte. In the summer, get your seaside and seafood fix with a day at the Ligurian sea. And, that’s just a starter list!
